SEATTLE – On Saturday, December 17, 2016, at 6:12 a.m., Firefighters were dispatched to the 1900 block of 6th Avenue West for a house fire. First arriving units were advised of a resident still inside the home, possibly located in the bedroom.
Firefighters quickly extended hose lines into the residence and initiated a search. Flames were visible from the back of the house with smoke coming from the front door and additional flames impinging on the residence to the right. During the search, Firefighters located one deceased adult female in the kitchen area of the home. Crews continued to fight the fire by cutting holes in the roof to ventilate smoke and applying water. The fire was successfully extinguished at approximately 7:05 a.m.
A Firefighter/Paramedic suffered a minor knee injury and was transported by a medic unit to an area hospital. The Red Cross and the Seattle Fire Department’s Chaplain were on-scene to provide support for surviving family members.
Fire Investigation Unit concluded that this incident was an undetermined fire in an occupied single family residence.
