SEATTLE – On Thursday, January 5, 2017, at approximately 2:53 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to the 1900 block of 1st Avenue after having received multiple calls about a fire in the building above Kells. There were also reports of people possibly inside on the second floor.
Firefighters arrived to a large amount of smoke coming from the roof. The Incident Commander called for a second alarm to provide additional resources. Firefighters worked through heat and heavy smoke and found the location of the fire on the third floor. The fire was under control by 3:30 p.m. and all primary and secondary searches completed. The fire was extinguished by 3:48 p.m.
There were no reported injuries. The building was under construction and believed to be unoccupied at the time of the fire.
Fire Investigation Unit members are currently investigating the cause and origin of fire, and estimated damages in this incident.
