SEATTLE – On Sunday, January 15, 2017, at 6:41 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to the 400 block of S Orchard Street for a fire in building.
Firefighters arrived to find fire with heavy smoke coming from the second floor of a two-story wooden structure that contained a temple under renovation. Residents who occupied the downstairs of the building discovered the fire. Firefighters quickly deployed a hose line, obtained a water supply, initiated a vertical ventilation and conducted a search. The fire was contained and successfully extinguished by 7:21 a.m.
There no reported injuries for this incident. City Light was requested to assist with power and Seattle Department of Transportation for salt.
Fire Investigation Unit members determined this incident to be accidental, where the fire was a result of mechanical damage to electrical wiring in the building. The estimated damage is $70,000.
