SEATTLE – On Sunday, February 12, 2017, at 9:52 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to the 400 block of Minor Avenue N for an unoccupied house fire.
Firefighters arrived to find a vacant single-family residence with light smoke visible on the second floor. They quickly applied water and opened entry ways for ventilation. Once inside the building, firefighters extinguished the fire, conducted primary and secondary searches, and ensured the fire had not spread. Firefighters remained overnight to provide a fire watch for this incident.
There were no reported injuries. The Seattle Police Department was on scene to assist and Seattle City Light notified for power.
Fire Investigation Unit members determined this fire as accidental. The fire ignited in the first floor living room due to improperly discarded smoking material. The estimated loss is $70,000.
