SEATTLE – On Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at 4:38 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to the 9800 block of 44th Avenue SW for a residential fire.
Firefighters arrived to find a fully involved fire in a two-story house with a basement. All of the occupants were initially reported to be out of the building. Firefighters were then told an adult female was still inside the home. Due to risks created by the heavy amount of fire, firefighters had to fight the fire defensively and were unable to conduct an immediate search for the resident inside the structure. Once the situation stabilized and the fire was under control, firefighters entered the home and located the woman deceased in a first-floor bathroom.
Red Cross was notified to provide assistance to three adults.
Seattle Police Department, Seattle City Light and Seattle Public Utilities responded to the scene for support.
The cause of the fire is undetermined pending further information. The estimated loss is $400,000.
