A memorial service for Seattle Fire Department Deputy Chief Jesse F. Youngs will be held on Thursday, November 4 at 2:00 p.m. at the Naval Reserve Building, 860 Terry Avenue North in Seattle. Chief Youngs died October 22, 2010. The 53-year old Chief spent his firefighting career with the Seattle Fire Department. He was well loved and respected both in and out of the fire station, and his accomplishments were many.
Youngs was born and raised in Puyallup, Washington. Following in his father’s footsteps, he became a firefighter and joined the Seattle Fire Department in 1978. During his 32-years with the Department, he rose up through the ranks working at some of the busiest fire stations in the City. His leadership, sense of professionalism and knowledge of fire ground operations were widely recognized. Youngs was chosen by his fellow firefighters as Chief of the Year in 2007 and served as the Vice President of the Fire Chief’s Union, Local 2898. He was also nominated for a Seattle Management Association, Excellence in Management Award.
Chief Youngs is survived by his wife Marie Youngs, daughters Maegen Youngs and Heather Stafford (Jeff), grandsons Kaden, Kaige and Grady, brother Bill Youngs, sister Linda Youngs, nephews Ryan Youngs (Emily) and Chris Youngs (Kristen), 3 great-nieces, and 1 great-nephew.
