July 18- Shortly after 3pm, several neighbors called 911 to report flames inside an upper bedroom of a two- story home in the 2400 block of West McCord Place in Magnolia. Engine 18 was the first to arrive and found flames shooting from the roof of the home.
Neighbors reported all of the occupants were out. Firefighters mounted an aggressive attack and also did a primary search and made sure no one was home. The flames were knocked down within 15 minutes.
Seattle Firefighters were able to save boxes of family pictures and heirlooms around the home. Fire crews also put tarps over other family heirlooms to prevent them from being damaged by the water. The homeowner said he was working on building a family history and he thanked firefighters for their efforts to save his possessions.
The fire investigator called this an accidental fire. The investigators determined the cause to be electrical, a frayed electrical cord to a night stand lamp. The damage estimates are 100 thousand dollars to the structure and 50 thousand dollars to the content.
The homeowner is staying at another location until repairs can be made to his home.
