October 21—Combustibles stored on a stove top ignited causing 35 thousand dollars damage to a storage area above a downtown Seattle Antique store. Seattle Fire Investigators are calling the fire accidental and say an employee accidental knocked on a stove top burner causing the cardboard to ignite burning the cabinets.
911 dispatchers received the first call of smoke coming from a building shortly after 5 p.m. Less than 2 minutes later, the first engine company arrived at the building which was located at the 1800 block of 6th Avenue in downtown Seattle. The lone employee of the store safely evacuated.
Firefighters were able to knock down the flames within a couple of minutes. The fire did not extend beyond the storage area.
Once the fire was knocked down, firefighters covered as many antiques as possible with tarps to try and prevent them from being damaged by water.
Investigators estimate the structure damage at 30 thousand dollars and the contents at five thousand dollars.
