November 20—A Seattle Fire Investigator determined that improperly discarded smoking materials in a couch caused a fire in a boarding house on Capitol Hill Friday Night.
Around 11:15 p.m., Engine Company 25 arrived to find flames in the basement of the 2-story home located in the 700 block of 15th Avenue in Capitol Hill. Firefighters searched the converted home and made sure everyone was safely evacuated.
Two patients were transported to Harborview Medical Center by AMR ambulances for minor injuries. No firefighters were injured.
Seattle Fire Investigators are calling this fire an accidental fire caused by the discarded smoking materials in the Southeast portion of the basement.
The damage estimate is 50 thousand dollars to the structure and 20 thousand dollars to the contents. The Red Cross was called to assist the 17 displaced residents.
