When firefighters first arrived on the scene of a house fire at 1624 North 45th in Wallingford last night, there was enough fire to potentially engulf several neighboring buildings. The firefighters immediately called for more resources and quickly evacuated everyone from buildings close to the fire. The burning house was only three feet behind the Kitaro Bento restaurant and wedged between a dentist’s office and a three story building that houses Molly Moons ice-cream store. The firefighters over came the challenge of the difficult access to the fire building and with their aggressive work, were able to get the two alarm fire under control in only 25 minutes.
Fire Investigators have determined the fire was accidental due to a faulty electrical issue. There was about $180,000.00 loss to the structure and contents. The firefighters were able to minimize the damage to the exposure buildings to $40,000.00. Molly Moons was back serving ice-cream that evening.
