January 14– Seattle Fire Medics rushed a Ballard women to Harborview Medical Center after she suffered life threatening burns during a fire in her home. At 12:57 p.m. a neighbor called 911 to report a woman on fire.
Ladder Company 8 forced entry into the locked second-story condo in the 7300 block of 15th Avenue NW. The firefighters found the patient on her balcony with second degree burns over a majority of her body. Firefighters rushed the woman to a waiting Medic Unit. The woman, who is in her 50’s, was conscious and talking. Medics rushed her to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition.
Engine Company 35 contained the fire to the kitchen. A Seattle Fire Investigator is calling it an accidental fire. Based on evidence and the patient’s statements, the woman accidentally set herself on fire in her kitchen. The fire spread to kitchen cabinets. Smoke and fire damage was limited to $2,000.
All of the homeowners in the four-story condo complex were allowed to return to their homes.
