February 22—Seattle Fire Department Investigators determined a late night fire on Beacon Hill was an accidental fire. The initial 911 call came in at 11:35 p.m. reporting a fire at a detached garage behind a home in the 1700 block of 19th Avenue South.
Engine Company 6 arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the garage. Firefighters from Ladder 3 forced entry into the locked garage and cut holes in the roof to allow the hot gases to escape. Fire crews contained the flames to the building. The fire was quickly controlled and extinguished.
After examining the inside of the garage, Seattle Fire investigators determined electrical wiring in the ceiling overheated causing the wood structure to ignite.
The damage estimate is $40,000, $30,000 to the structure and $10,000 to the contents.
There were no reported injuries.
