(UPDATE 6-12 12 5 p.m.) June 11—Seattle Firefighters and Medics treated five teenage burn patients after a beach BBQ pit fire exploded.
One of the injured teenagers poured accelerant into the BBQ pit causing the explosion.
At 8:50 p.m. Seattle Firefighters were called to Alki Beach Park in the 5900 block of Alki Avenue Southwest. When firefighters arrived they found two male teenagers suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns to their face and arms. Seattle Fire Medics transported the two most severely injured males to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition.
Two other teenagers, a male and a female, suffered 1st and 2nd degree burns to their upper chest while a female teenage suffered burns to her hair and face. AMR transported these three patients to Harborview Medical Center in stable condition.
A Seattle Fire Investigator determined it was caused by the teenager pouring a flammable liquid into the burning fire.
The Seattle Police Department’s Arson Bomb Squad detectives were notified of the case.
