August 6—A Friday Night House Boat fire in the 3200 block of Portage Bay Place East was caused by food on the stove.
The first 911 call came in at 7:13 p.m. reporting black smoke coming from a one-story house boat. Engine 1 arrived first and laid a hose line to the floating residence. Engine 22 laid a hose line from the shore. Firefighters knocked down the fire quickly.
The fire from the food on the stove extended to the ceiling and attic. The damage estimate was $2,500 to the structure and $1,500 to the contents.
The occupant was not inside the home when the fire broke out. No one was injured in the fire.
