March 21—A Seattle Fire Investigator determined a house fire at a Rainier Valley home was accidental, caused by unattended candles.
At 2:20 p.m., the Fire Alarm Center received multiple 911 calls reporting flames coming from the window of a one-story home located in the 3900 block of South Angel Place. When firefighters arrived they found all of the occupants safely out of the house. Smoke and flames were coming from the bedroom of the home. It took firefighters 50 minutes to completely extinguish the flames.
The majority of the damage was to a bedroom where the candles were left but the entire home suffered smoke and heat damage. The fire investigator estimates the damage loss at $30,000 to the structure and $15,000 to the contents.
No one was injured. The Red Cross was called to assist with temporary housing for one adult female and one male child.
