October 24—Seattle Fire Investigators determined a smoldering electrical fire in the attic caused a house fire on Capitol Hill. The fire is being classified as accidental.
The first 911 call came into the Fire Alarm Center at 8:16 p.m. reporting flames coming from the back door of a home that was being remodeled in 600 block of 27th Avenue East. Firefighters arrived to find an attic fire with smoke coming from the skylights of the home. Firefighters were able to contain the majority of the flames to the attic but the fire did extend into the wall. Firefighters were able to control the fire within 15 minutes.
No one was home at the time of the fire.
After further examination of the home, fire investigators lowered the initial $35,000 structure damage estimate to $25,000. The content damage estimate remains at $5,000.
