SEATTLE – On Saturday, December 17, 2016, at approximately 2:21 a.m., Firefighters were dispatched to the 1200 block of Westlake Avenue for reports of heavy black smoke coming from a vessel on Lake Union.
Firefighters arrived on scene to find black smoke coming from a wooden pleasure craft. Upon entering the interior space, they discovered the entire vessel filled with heavy smoke and fire in the walls. Firefighters suppressed the fire by cutting through the interior and utilizing fire extinguishers. The smoke was ventilated and the fire was successfully extinguished by approximately 3:40 a.m.
There were no reported injuries.
Fire Investigation Unit concluded that this incident was an accidental fire most likely caused by overheated wiring connected to an electric water heater. The estimated loss is $30,000.
