SEATTLE – On Thursday, May 25, 2017, at 3:18 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to the 1200 Blk. of NE 94th St. for a single-family residential fire.
When crews arrived, they saw dark smoke and flames coming from the exterior side of the home. Firefighters quickly established a hose line, conducted ventilation operations, and successfully extinguished the fire by 4:07 p.m. All occupants made it out of the home safely and no injuries were reported.
Fire Investigation Unit members ruled the fire as accidental and determined the cause was spontaneous combustion from oil staining rags. The fire started on the exterior side of the home, and spread to the attic. The adjacent home to the east sustained heavy heat damage to the exterior siding of the home. The estimated total loss, including damage to the adjacent home, is $310,000.
