August 26—A Seattle Fire Investigator is classifying the cause of West Seattle house fire as undetermined. The damage estimate is $55,000.
The Fire Alarm Center received multiple 911 calls reporting dark heavy smoke coming from a vacant house located in the 9200 block of 26th Avenue SW. The first arriving engine company found all the windows and doors of the house boarded up. Firefighters had to make forcible entry into the house to extinguish the fire. A large volume of combustible materials piled inside the house and backyard made firefighting efforts more challenging. It took nearly an hour to completely extinguish the flames.
Firefighters searched the boarded up ranch-style home but did not find anyone inside. Inside the house there was evidence of transient activity.
Crews dug out the smoldering combustible materials inside the house and foamed them down to ensure they did not rekindle. This afternoon, the house was released to the property owner.
There were no reported injuries.
