Seattle — Last night at 8:29 p.m., the Seattle Fire Department’s Fire Alarm Center received 911 calls from workers of a dog daycare in the 600 block of S. Industrial Way of SoDo reporting heavy smoke coming from the second floor of their facility. The workers evacuated the building and attempted to corral the dogs into an outdoor gated area a safe distance away from the facility. Engine 13 arrived first on scene reporting flames and heavy smoke coming from the second floor. With all daycare workers were accounted for, crews from Engine 13 worked quickly to get water on the fire while additional firefighters searched the building to evacuate the remaining dogs.

The fire was under control by 9:05 p.m.. Firefighters continued extinguishing hot spots and thoroughly search the building to confirm it was all clear. Though several loose dogs later returned to the building a couple hours after the incident. Dog daycare workers reunited several pets with their owners, then transported the remaining canines to another facility.

No injuries were reported, and the incident is under investigation. A unit will remain overnight to monitor for flare ups.

UPDATED Nov. 14 at 10:30 a.m.: Investigators ruled the cause of the fire as undetermined. Estimated loss is $150,000.
