June 4—Seattle Fire Investigators determined a fire at a Roosevelt neighborhood home was started by stove-top burner igniting combustible materials. According to the investigator, it is being classified as an accidental fire caused by the occupant mistakenly turning on the wrong stove burner.
At 5:24 p.m., firefighters were called to a home in the 800 block of NE 62nd Street for reports of a kitchen fire. Green Lake’s Engine Company 16 arrived three minutes later to find smoke coming from the 2-story home. The fire had extended from the stove to the kitchen cabinets. Within 4 minutes, firefighters knocked down the fire.
Seattle Fire Paramedics treated a female occupant of the home for minor smoke inhalation. She did not need to be transported.
Damage estimates are $15,000 to the structure and $5,000 to the contents according to the Seattle Fire Investigator.
