July 15—Firefighters quickly extinguished a kitchen fire at a Capitol Hill home this morning.
At 5:52 a.m. a caller reported to dispatchers at the Fire Alarm Center that there was heavy black smoke in the windows of a home located in the 700 block of 20th Avenue.
Engine Company 6 arrived to find fire burning in the kitchen. Crews were able to extinguish the fire in just 4 minutes. Unattended food on the stove is the cause of the fire. The flames extended to the kitchen cabinets and caused smoke to fill the home. The damage estimate is $10,000.
AMR transported a lone female occupant to a local hospital as a precaution after the smoke exasperated a previous medical condition.
