February 22—Seattle Fire Investigators determined a roof fire at a home located in the Rainier Beach area of Seattle was accidental and caused by an electrical fire near the exterior porch light.
At 12:03 a.m. a 911 call came into the Fire Alarm Center reporting flames coming from a the roof of a one-story home located in the 6000 block of South Roxbury Street. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the roof and attic space. Within 15 minutes the fire was under control. It took 40 minutes to completely extinguish the flames.
A smoke alarm alerted the sleeping occupant to the smoke coming from the ceiling light fixture near the front door. One adult female and one adult male escaped before firefighters arrived.
Fire investigators estimate the damage loss at $45,000.
There were no injuries.
