September 26, 2012—Seattle Fire Investigators determined an overnight fire at a vacant lot in the University District was an accidental fire. Investigators say improperly discarded smoking materials in a pile of combustibles caused the fire.
Tuesday night at 11:55 p.m., dispatchers at the Fire Alarm Center received a 911 call reporting flames coming from an empty lot located in the 700 block of NE 43rd Street. Engine Company 17 arrived in less than 2 minutes and found flames in the brush at the lot. Within 15 minutes, firefighters had completely extinguished the flames.
There were no reported injuries and no dollar loss.
