A fire at a Pioneer Square night club is being classified as an accidental fire after items were left on a stovetop caught fire.
At 8:44 a.m. a 911 caller reported seeing white smoke coming from the roof of a building in the 100 block of South Washington Street. Within 3 minutes, Engine Company 10 arrived to find hazy white smoke coming from the roof.
Firefighters made forcible entry into the locked night club. Inside they found a fire in the kitchen had been extinguished by the buildings sprinkler system.
Fire investigators found a melted plastic container full of liquor bottles placed on the stove had caught fire. The flames spread to nearby boxes and garbage cans. The fire was extinguished by the fire sprinkler system.
Due to the fire protection systems, the damage was limited to the stove area of the kitchen. Investigators estimate damage at $7,500.
