SEATTLE – Just before 2:40 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 6, firefighters responded to an apartment fire in the Beacon Hill neighborhood. Engine 13 quickly arrived on scene and saw flames coming from a unit on the second floor. Crews applied water on the fire and had it under control within 15 minutes.
Most residents had self-evacuated from the building prior to the arrival of fire crews. Firefighters conducted a search of the building and rescued a cat – the cat did not need medical attention. There were no reported injuries. The American Red Cross was called to assist displaced residents.
Two additional engine companies were dispatched beyond the initial response for crew rotation. At the height of the fire, there were eight engines and four ladder trucks on-scene.
Fire investigators determined the fire was intentionally set. The fire unit, and the unit directly above on floor three, sustained damage. The first story of the building is a parking garage. Estimated loss is $100,000 to structure and $50,000 to contents. The Seattle Police Department is investigating.
