Ballard Apartment Fire

SEATTLE – At 3:56 a.m. on February 28, 2018 the Fire Alarm Center received a 911 call reporting a fire in an apartment on the 6700 Block of 24 Avenue NW. Engine 18 arrived first on scene and reported flames visible from the apartment.  Crews quickly put water on the fire to keep it from spreading to other apartments and the fire was extinguished within 30 minutes.

All occupants had safely exited the building prior to Seattle Fire’s arrival.  There were no reported injuries to members of the public or to any firefighter. Red Cross was requested for three adult females.

The fire was ruled accidental due to an unattended candle.  It is recommended to use flame-less candles as a safer option.  The estimated loss to the structure was $120,000 and $50,000 to contents.
