SEATTLE – At 2:42 a.m. on Wednesday, April 25, firefighters were dispatched to the 3600 Blk. of 14th Ave. S. for a report of smoke coming from an apartment building. The first arriving engine arrived to find smoke and fire from the second floor and requested a full response. The response was upgraded to a 2-alarm due to the fire spreading to the third floor and attic space.
Crews quickly had the fire under control and confirmed that the building, which was undergoing renovation, had been searched and was evacuated. There were no reported injuries. At the height of the fire, there was a total of 29 apparatus on scene, including 10 engines and five ladder trucks.
Fire investigators responded to the scene and ruled the fire accidental. They determined the fire was caused by an internal electrical issue. The fire started in the space between floors two and three. Due to a previous fire that had occurred at the apartment building, the estimated loss was only $20,000.
