Woman found deceased in University District vacant building fire

SEATTLE — Last night around 8:30 p.m., the Seattle Fire Department’s Fire Alarm Center received calls reporting smoke and flames visible from a vacant building at the 800 block of NE 42nd St. When firefighters arrived on scene, they confirmed flames visible from a one-story single family residence with an added apartment. Initial firefighting operations were conducted from the exterior as the doors and windows were boarded up. Once the fire was under control and the plywood removed, the incident commander decided to deploy limited resources into the structure to do a search.

Once inside, crews found an adult female. Firefighters brought her out, but sadly, she was pronounced deceased at the scene. Firefighters completed a secondary search of the structure to confirm no additional occupants were inside. The fire was extinguished by 9:00 p.m., and no additional injuries were reported. Five fire engines, three ladder trucks, and additional support units were dispatched to the scene for a total of 53 Seattle Fire personnel.

Fire Investigators have ruled the fire as undetermined with an estimated loss of $75,000.
