Fire displaces three townhomes in the Olympic Hills neighborhood

Seattle — Last night at 11:20 p.m., the Seattle Fire Department’s Fire Alarm Center received 911 calls from neighbors reporting a townhome on fire at the 12500 block of 26th Ave. NE. in the Olympic Hills neighborhood. Engine 39 was the first unit on scene and encountered a fire on a second-floor balcony that extended into the townhome. Additional crews arrived on scene to get water on the fire and search the home to confirm no one was still inside.

Crews had the fire under control by 11:39 p.m., and began checking for extension. Unfortunately, fire entered the attic space connecting the three townhomes. Forcing crews to pull apart the ceiling and cut into the roof in order to gain access to the fire. At 12:38 a.m. the fire was fully extinguished, though a unit will remain on scene throughout the night for fire watch.

No injuries were reported, but residents of three townhomes were displaced. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Updated July 3: Investigators ruled the fire was accidental. Likely caused by fireworks. Estimated loss is $100,000.
