Seattle – At 4:58 p.m., Seattle Fire Department’s Fire Alarm Center received 911 calls reporting a fire in a high-rise apartment building in the 800 block of Jefferson St. The first arriving crews on scene reported a fire in a unit on the thirteenth floor of the building. The incident was upgraded to a 2-alarm fire due to the size of the building and concerns the fire would spread to adjacent units.
The fire was contained to one unit and extinguished. Crews began the process of overhaul and ventilation to clear smoke from the fire floor and the floors above and below.
One patient was helped out of the building by firefighters. Crews treated an approximately 40-year-old female in stable condition. The patient was taken to Harborview Medical Center.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Update April 18: Investigators ruled the cause of the fire as accidental. The fire was the result of incense that ignited nearby bedding spreading to the mattress.
