Seattle — At 11:23 p.m., the Seattle Fire Department’s Fire Alarm Center received 911 calls reporting smoke and flames coming from a two-story home in the 2700 block of S. Massachusetts St. in the Central District. Engine 6 was the first unit on scene, and they reported flames visible through multiple windows of entire building. Forcing crews to establish a defensive position by putting water on the fire at a safe distance away from the building.

Crews evacuated adjacent homes as a safety precaution. By 12:00 a.m., crews were able to get the fire under control. Rescue 1 surveyed the building and determined it was structurally damaged. Deeming it unsafe to enter and search the home. Fortunately, the resident was later found on scene with no reported injuries.

A unit will remain on scene overnight for fire watch. The incident is under investigation.

Updated April 23: Investigators ruled the cause of the fire as undetermined.
