
Seattle — This morning at 3:49 a.m., the Seattle Fire Department’s Fire Alarm Center received 911 calls reporting a fire on the roof and deck of a four-story residential building in the 4500 block of 19th Ave. NE in the University District. When crews arrived on scene they found the occupants were able to extinguish the small deck fire. Firefighters accessed the roof and found a fire extended into the attic void space.
The incident was upgraded to a 2-alarm response where more than 80 SFD personnel were dispatched to the scene. Firefighters were able to get the fire under control by 4:54 a.m., but it caused significant damage to the roof, attic and top floor.
No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
UPDATED July 8, 2025: Investigators ruled the fire as undetermined. Likely caused by fireworks.
