Engine 34 arrived first on scene and reported flames breaching several third-floor windows. They worked quickly to deploy a 2.5″ hose line to put water on the exterior portion of the fire.
Additional firefighters entered the building to put water on the interior portion of the fire and search for occupants. They conducted a primary and secondary search throughout the building to confirm no one was inside. Ladder 3 crews climbed to the roof of the building to check for extension and establish vertical ventilation to help clear smoke from the third floor.
Around 5:30 a.m., the fire was declared extinguished. Crews transitioned to overhaul work by remove smoldering debris from the third floor. As a safety precaution, Puget Sound Energy shutdown natural gas while Seattle City Light turned off electricity to the entire building. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
