2-alarm fire in the Beacon Hill neighborhood

Seattle — At 5:21 a.m., the Seattle Fire Department’s Fire Alarm Center received 911 calls reporting a fire in a detached garage, with a living space above, that was under construction in the 2300 block of 17th Ave. S. Engine 13 was the first unit on scene. They reported the fire consumed the entire garage and extended to the residence. They worked quickly to put water on the fire and search the home.

At 5:30 a.m., Battalion 5 upgraded the response to a 2-alarm fire, requesting additional resources to get the fire under control and evacuate the impacted homes. Intense heat from the garage fire damaged an adjacent utility pole, causing power lines to hang low, and scorched a couple cars parked in the alley. Fire also extended to a neighboring shed.

Firefighters were able to get the fire under control by 5:39 a.m. No injuries were reported, and a unit will remain through the morning for fire watch.

The cause of this fire is “undetermined” but is noted as suspicious due to no obvious ignition sources found (i.e. no electrical issue found, etc.).
