Each year, the Seattle Fire Department gathers to remember the brave men and women lost in the line of duty in service to our city. Please join Seattle Fire on Friday, Oct. 3 as the department pays tribute to the 55 Seattle Fire members who gave their lives protecting others.
Date: Friday, Oct. 3, 2025
Time: 9:30 – 10:15 a.m.
Location: Fallen Firefighter Memorial, Occidental Park, Seattle
Livestream: facebook.com/SeattleFire
Seattle Fire hosts this annual event in Occidental Park at the Seattle Fallen Firefighter Memorial, which was dedicated in 1998. Artist Hai Ying Wu designed the bronze and granite memorial. It features four life-sized bronze statues of firefighters in action, surrounded by granite slabs symbolizing a collapsed building. Their masked faces represent every firefighter who has served without regard for their own safety.
The ceremony includes:
- Presentation of colors by the Walter Kilgore Memorial Honor Guard
- Performances by the Seattle Firefighters Pipes and Drums band
- Reflections from department and union leadership
- A reading of the names of Seattle firefighters who have died in the line of duty since the department’s inception in 1889
This memorial was inspired by the tragic loss of four Seattle firefighters in the 1995 Mary Pang warehouse fire and stands as a lasting tribute to all of Seattle Fire’s fallen.
Your presence helps ensure that the memories and legacies of these fallen firefighters are never forgotten.
You may also show your support the evening of Oct. 3. Seattle Fire will pull their apparatus on their station ramps and flash their truck and engine lights between 8-8:15 p.m. Neighbors are invited to visit the stations or show your support by turning your front door lights red as we all Light the Night.
