SEATTLE – At 11:20 a.m. on April 3, 2026, the Seattle Fire Department’s Fire Alarm Center received notice of an automatic fire alarm and 911 calls reporting smoke coming from a high-rise building in the 400 block of 9th Ave. N. Engine 2 arrived first at the scene and confirmed smoke coming from the structure.
Crews entered the building and reported no active fire, but it appeared there had been a small explosion in the generator room located in the parking garage. Smoke spread through the parking garage and into parts of building. Firefighters reported an electrical hazard near the generator room and shut off access to the parking garage until Puget Sound Energy arrived and de-energized the building.
While the building was in alarm, one occupant was trapped in a freight elevator. Once power to the building was shut off, Rescue Company 1 safely entered the structure and rescued the occupant.
Seattle Fire Department’s Mobile Ventilation Unit responded and assisted with ventilating the building to remove smoke.
The scene was cleared by 1:40 p.m.
